Chevy Dashboard Warning Lights
Your Chevy’s dashboard warning lights are how your car communicates with you when something goes wrong. Not all warning lights should cause a panic in you, but that should not mean you should ignore them.
Understanding what warning lights do and don't mean will help you help your vehicle. A small problem could turn into a bigger, more expensive, and potentially dangerous issue. Enabling you with peace of mind, our service team here at Boland Chevrolet is here to decipher the meaning of common dashboard warning lights.
Schedule ServiceBelow, we’ve explained the meanings behind some of the most common dashboard warning lights, with the numbers corresponding to the photo above.
- Oil Warning Light - Engine oil pressure has dropped to a low level. Oil pump isn't circulating enough oil or the oil level is too low for the system to circulate
- Engine Temperature - illuminates when your vehicle's engine has exceeded the recommended maximum temperature (overheating)
- Check Engine Light - The check engine light can indicate various issues from electrical to mechanical problems. If the light begins to flash, you should schedule vehicle service immediately.
- Service Reminder Indicator - Time for your routine maintenance. You do not need to rush to a service center, and you’re not in any present danger. Simply visit our Boland Chevrolet service center soon, and one of our talented technicians will make sure your car is up to date inside and out.
- Slip Indicator / Electronic Stability Control - Your Chevy has detected slippery conditions and has activated its traction control system.
- Tire Pressure Indicator - One or more of your tires is significantly low on air. You should inflate your tires as soon as possible as well as receive a tire service.
- Low Fuel Indicator - One of the most common symbols to light up on the dashboard is this simple gasoline-pump icon. Gas or charge up soon to avoid being stranded without fuel far from the pump
- Headlight Out Indicator - One or more of the headlamp bulbs or other bulbs is burned out or malfunctioning.
- High Beam Indicator - Indicates the use of headlight high beams. If you turn your high beams on and do not see this symbol light up or if you see this light up, but your high beams do not come on, visit a service center soon.
- Charging System (Battery) Trouble - May illuminate because of two issues:
- One is that your battery will not allow itself to be charged and is dead.
- The other problem may be that your weak battery is being let down by a failed alternator
